Day 25: A little bit blue, a little bit rock-n-roll, but mostly empty

April 7, 2010 Posted by Alfredo. Category: Photography. Tags: ,

Sometimes days are a bitter sweet experience. On one hand, school is going great, I am falling in love with teaching, everyday feels more natural, my students are eager to learn (and get stickers as rewards of course), it seems their craving for knowledge (and chocolates –more rewards) is unquenchable.

Empty Faces

Soulless statues feeling a bit blue

Honestly it feels good to be in control and feel that I am improving. Now, on the other hand, I feel I am in a blur, somewhat lost I guess. Today as I was looking for some used computer parts downtown, I stubbled upon this hidden art supplies store, they had these lifeless statues wrapped with vinil in their display, as I stared at them all these thoughts came floating to my mind: I am so far away from home; Where is home? The future is so uncertain, I feel very talented but at the same time very inmature and irresponsible, very selfish, I am mess and I am alone. At the end, I was overcomed by a feeling a little bit blue, a little bit rock and roll, but mostly of emptyness (soulessness). Now, don’t worry (especially you mom), I tend to feel like this every once in a while, I guess it’s normal. Wow, too much information, it’s ok, nobody reads this blog anyway. Oh well, I know this weekend is going to rock, Cherry Blossom Festival in Jinhae, here I come!!!

Yes, I have a new computer (a monster made of lesser computers), I am currently looking for a good fitting name.

Day 24: Nocturne Cherry Blossoms

April 6, 2010 Posted by Alfredo. Category: Photography. Tags: , ,

Cherry Blossoms with street light in the background

I wasn’t feeling like taking a picture today, in fact I forgot my camera at home in the morning. Miraculously, my neighbor offered to show me where the running track is. So I decided to take Niko (that’s the name I baptize my camera with) just in case. As we were crossing through a park, I realize how beautiful the cherry blossoms looked with the street back light. It was cold, so I couldn’t keep a steady hand, I might come back and redo the whole thing (I might bring my tripod this time). Geez, night photography is tough. Even though it did’t turn out very well, I like it, it’s a little abstract, a little Je ne sais quoi.

Side note, my laptop is giving its last kicks, I seriously don’t know what’s wrong, it overheats so much, that when I upload stuff to Flickr I have to stick it inside the fridge and wait, otherwise it shuts itself off. Oh well, let’s hope it doesn’t die soon.

Day 23: Bathroom Flip-Flops

April 5, 2010 Posted by Alfredo. Category: Photography. Tags: ,

Korean Bathroom Flip Flops

Mondays, oh Mondays! I woke up way late, prepared my lesson, made breakfast and soon after rushed into the shower. You see, showers here in Korea are not your typical western style personal spa, the water comes from a weird hose attached to the sink, and there is neither a bathtub nor anything that forbids the water to flood the entire bathroom floor. At first I thought this [continue reading]

Day 22: Everybody Cheers!!

April 4, 2010 Posted by Alfredo. Category: Journal,Photography. Tags: , ,

Cheers: Where everybody knows your name!

It was a great yet long weekend, I got to work on Saturday, no big deal, in fact it was way fun, it was science club day or something like that. That night I went to Daegu, and debuted as the Talk historian, I got to take pictures of our get together in Daegu, many people showed up and it was a great opportunity to catch up and tell each other about our adventures teaching Korean kids. Everyone had something to share, some were horror stories about how kids are just uncontrollable, and others shared how much they love to teach and how cute their students are. Overall we all had a good time being together and taking a break from our drudgery (character shaping) Korean country life. Unfortunately I had to leave early due to a serious headache, so I couldn’t stay the whole night. And that’s it, enjoy the pictures.

Day 21: Spring is in the vicinity

April 2, 2010 Posted by Alfredo. Category: Journal,Photography. Tags: , ,

Spring is almost here! Hip, hip, hooray!!

It’s been a long gloomy and soggy week (both literally and metaphorically). But at the end of the week, spring came and saved the day week. I’ve been reading a lot and in consequence I’ve been pondering a lot (yes, reading makes you think), it seems like the whole soul searching thing is finally kicking in. I am grateful for what I have and the opportunities I’ve been given, this is the best time to start dreaming big (See what a little bit sunshine can do for you?). I don’t want to go into details, but at least I wrap this entry with this:

“That is life, it forces you to laugh when you don’t feel like it, to cry when you don’t want to cry, to say something is not ok when you think otherwise. Life pulls you away from the people you love and it ties you with a rope to people you don’t want to associate with. No, life is not like that. It’s me, in this moment, in this instance, being tossed around by the whirlwind of life.”
